Heart Mass Effect: Retribution announced.

THANK GOD

They are making another book and it comes out in July.

Description

Quote:
Retribution is set in the universe fans know well from the video game and novel series—one in which humanity has explored the very farthest reaches of the universe, only to discover the ruthless Reapers, a race bent on extinguishing all organic life. One man is bent on discovering the Reapers' secrets, the mysterious Illusive Man, the leader of a pro-human, black ops group, Cerberus. And he's devised the perfect plan: implant a human subject with Reaper technology in order to study the enemy.

He also has the perfect test subject—Paul Grayson, an ex-Cerberus operative. Grayson betrayed Cerberus in order to save his daughter. So when Grayson is kidnapped and made the subject of Cerberus' evil experiments, the Illusive Man will finally have his revenge...

Sounds really awesome but I'm wondering where the fuck he got any Reaper technology. He must have taken some from The Collectors. Poor Grayson though, he's not really a killer he's just a man who got caught up in the wrong crowd.

Although this does seem to confirm the Illsuive man really is evil to the core.....which now makes it more conflicted to be working for him in Mass Effect 2

In both horrible disgusting paperback and glorious, revolutionary, digital ebook format on Kindle

I'm just more comfortable using the Nook software for Android and PC. That is, if I ever got into e-books. Though I am a flashy whore though and would buy a Nook, given the choice.

Paper barely lasts a couple centuries unless you're a preservationist. >_> Digital is the only true timeless format.

Unless it uses DRM and the provider goes down somehow. <_<

Eh. You'll realize why you wish you had a physical copy of a book 10-15 years later. There's no point in trying to convince you now.

Soon you will be full of regret. Tsk Tsk, so naive.

Maybe. But as someone who will be potentially moving a lot over the next decade, I need to slim things down as much as possible. Minimalism for the win. I've had to move my sister like three times and she had like three of the heaviest boxes full of books and manga. Ugh. If I have to take even half a box like that it'll be way too much.

oh please, you need to have some form of exercise. You think you're going to go out with a Kumiko, but with the way your lifestyle is, you're going to end up with a Trish.

Sooo case in point. Physical Copy = Hot girlfriend.

I win.

I would rather have the book in hand. Enjoy low batteries, glaring screen, and a risk of losing everything.

Just the thought of buying digital books in some proprietary format makes me cringe. I've already had to buy movies in thee formats and had the chance to buy music in three ( thank God for the ability to rip CDs).

Yeah, screw Amazon's AZW and non acceptance of ePub (the open industry standard.)

@Stealth: E-ink is amazing, no glares and batteries that last for weeks.

Well there's 8 robot masters.

When he fights through the Wily Stages, it's a bit less repetitive.

What is the point of emulating perfection? Why have E-ink, when you could just have a book with... I donno... INK.

Not to mention you don't have the cool cover, and it's less social. Now, if you want to share a book with someone, they may not have the gay little E-Reader, so now you can't share anything.

The fun with books, to me, and what got me into books was the idea of sharing books. Someone came to me and said "Read this Motherfucker" and so I did, and than I read that, and so on and so forth. You pretty much take away the social experience when you restrict yourself to a piece of software that not everyone can use.

But that's all I'm going to say about it. Thankfully, there will always be people buying and supporting physical copies of products, because that keeps the product in the hands of the consumer instead of in the hands of the creator, which isn't really a good thing.

I think sharing will be opened up a lot in the future. It started with the Nook, which lets you loan e-books to anyone with a Nook or Nook software (on PC, Android, iPad, whatever) for 14 days.

E-ink is just as good as normal ink, I've seen it. Better still, you can do cool things like search for words, look up a word in the dictionary, highlight words, etc. right on the device.

Having a big bookcase is not an appealing thing to me. Having to look and browse up and down, left and right, for 20 minutes, looking for the book I want. With an e-reader, it's just a search or tap away. And besides that, with the 3G capable ones, you can buy new books anytime, anywhere.

And eventually, the digital copies will be a lot cheaper. When textbook makers finally get their asses in gear and onto the digital bandwagon, that's truly the day e-readers will have won the public mindshare battle. No one wants to pay half a grand for 50 pounds of books they have to lug to class and back when they could pay maybe half (or less) and have all of them all on one single device that weighs 2 pounds or less.

Most of the non DRM protected epubs were things that were free of copyright and all that was converted to AZW and then put up for Kindle users to download totally free of charge.

Also I see very few people who are still creating things in non DRM protected ePubs and there are things like Stanza that can easily convert in mulitple DRM free formats.

However ALL of the DRM protected ePubs are confusing as hell with Adobe controlling most of the market. I don't blame Amazon for not wanting to have to pay Adobe money just to use their DRM enhanced version of an "open industry standard".

Eh, there's still no reason Amazon doesn't support the non-DRM version. And it's looking like the next version of ePub will have an official DRM implementation, so then there'll be really no excuse for Amazon. Even now, it's pretty baffling. Open standards for the win.

Dang.. I haven't ready any of the Mass Effect books... finally have gotten around to playing tha games..

Can anyone post an excerpt from the Mega Man 2 book...

Is it like... "As Mega Man entered the Boss chamber, he loaded his Mega Buster with the weapon he salvaged after the defeat of Metal man. Flash man stood before him in his crystal chamber ready to face anyone who dared to enter his domain.... "

if so that would be great bathroom reading...
